Dear parents,

During the past few weeks we've been learning about growing things, observing each day as our beans, potatoes and carrots change and grow. The children have been great at taking care of our little plants, watering them every day and with your help they will keep caring for their plants at home (check the latest pictures on our website).

March brought us a new student, Daniel, who is very quickly settling in to his new big adventure; everybody in the class has been extremely welcoming to our newest class member.

Spring is in the air and, after a long cold winter, we can now enjoy once more the outdoor playground. We are ready for an exciting new month and we can’t wait to celebrate Nolan, Richard and Wilder’s birthdays. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS!

The weekly themes for April include:

-        WEEK1: EASTER. We'll all turn into Easter bunnies enjoying an Easter eggs' hunt around our outdoor palyground. It will be nice to have all children bring stuffed bunnies to share with friends at school on Wednesday for show & tell.

-        WEEK 2: SPRIG BREAK (6th -15th April)

-        WEEK 3: POLICE & FIRE FIGHTERS. For one week our classroom will turn into a police or fire station, and the children will wear costumes pretending to be policeman or firefighters. This will be a good oportunity for us to talk, play games and make dramatic plays about safety on the streets. The most exciting day will be Tuesday 17th when we will visit the fire station. Here, children will meet firefighters, and learn about their job as well as what to do in case of fire. The children will also have the chance to see real fire trucks!

-        WEEK 4: INTERNATIONAL DAY. We have already started to practice for the International Day’s (27th April) performance of the French song, “savez vous planter les choux”. On International Day we will talk about our nationalities and look for our countries on the map. During International Day everybody should represent their countries by wearing a traditional costumes or flags or national sports team uniform, etc (parents are also welcome to dress up to if they wish :) we will end this half day of school with a potluck lunch like we did for Christmas.

This month we will be focusing on recognition of the letters U - V – W and number 9

We will review all shapes and colours

Songs - fingerplay
Sing to the tune, "Down By the Station"
Down by the station early in the morning,
See the great big fire trucks all in a row.
Hear the jangly fire bell sound a loud alarm now--
Chug chug, clang clang, off we go!

T
en brave firefighters (ten fingers straight up)
Sleeping in a row (fingers are out flat)
Ding goes the bell (clap hands)
Down the pole they go (hands go down imaginary pole),
Jumping on the engine (make driving motions)
Putting out the fire (pretend to hold hose)
Drive home--go slow (driving motion--slow)
Back to bed again (hands form pillow)
All in a row. (fingers are out flat)
Traffic Light song

Red says stop
Green says go.
Yellow says wait.
You'd better go slow.
When I reach a crossing place
To the left and right I turn my face.
I wallk, not run across the street.
and use my head to guide my feet.

Savez-vous planter les choux

Savez-vous planter les choux
À la mode, à la mode ?
Savez-vous planter les choux
À la mode de chez nous ?

On les plante avec le doigt
À la mode, à la mode
On les plante avec le doigt
À la mode de chez nous
On les plante avec les mains…
On les plante avec le pied…
On les plante avec le coude…
On les plante avec le nez…

Hello, Bonjour, Buenos dias!
Anyon, Guten-Tag, Konichiwa.....
Ciao, Shalom, Do-Brey dien,
Hello to all the children of the world!
We live in different places from all around the world.
We speak in many different ways!
Though some things may be different,
We're children just the same-
And we all like to sing and play!
[chorus]
There are children in the deserts,
And children in the towns,
And children who live down by the sea!
If we could meet each other,
To run and sing and play-
Then what good friends we all could be!
